Google Pixel 3 & Pixel 3a won't get video astrophotography & Assistant Call Actions; No car crash detection for Pixel 3a users too

Google’s Pixel devices are all set to get several new features. The feature drop includes video astrophotography in Night Sight, Locked Folder for photos and videos, and much more.

However, some of the features will not roll out to a couple of devices in the Pixel lineup. Among them, the video astrophotography feature in Night Sight and Assistant Call Actions for the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3a.

The video astrophotography feature basically captures motion photos in the Night Sight mode. On the other hand, Assistant Call Actions allow users to easily manage calls via the “Hey Google” hotword.

While the video astrophotography feature is available for the Pixel 4 and later devices in the lineup, users of the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3a are out of luck with this one.

The case is same for Assistant Call Actions as the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3a will miss out on it. The reason behind these features not coming to the said devices might be hardware limitations.

This is still based on our speculation as the tech giant has not provided much clarity on the matter. Apart from that, the Pixel 3a will also not get the Car Crash Detection feature.

However, the latest security update changelog for the Verizon Google Pixel 3a variant suggests otherwise.

Verizon is now rolling out the June 2021 security update to the Pixel 3a. Its changelog clearly indicates that it includes Car Crash Detection for the device in question.

However, this might be because the network service provider is using a common changelog for the said update as the Pixel 3, which is also getting the same update with Car Crash Detection as expected.

It is possible that the said feature is simply listed for the Pixel 3a June update changelog but is not actually rolling out to it.
