when I click the edit button on iPad Pro 10.5, the app slows to a crawl, the photo sort of “jumps” to edit position, and then it all freezes

Are you using Google Photos on iPad? Does the app halt whenever you initiate editing? If your answer to both questions is yes, then it’s worth knowing that Google has acknowledged that Photos app freezes while editing, and is working on the same.
Though the problem has not been reported by many, it has been officially acknowledged by the Photos team in reply to a user query on Twitter. The user in question faced the issue on his iPad Pro 10.5. He explained that editing initially slowed down the app, followed by the picture itself moving to editing position, which eventually froze the app.
Thanks for the update, Paul. We're aware of this issue and investigating.
