OnePlus is only one of three Android smartphone vendors that guarantee at least three years of Android OS updates for its devices. Or perhaps some of its devices.

It is unclear whether OnePlus will be providing three OS updates to devices in the Nord series. But what is clear is that others in the top-end segment are in line for three OS updates.

The first devices to bag three OS updates were the OnePlus 3 and 3T, which currently run on Android Pie following their debut with Android Marshmallow out of the box.

Next in line were the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T. The duo came with Nougat pre-installed and now have Android 10 running the show. The update to OxygenOS 10 came out way back in May.

Not long after, reports of issues related to receiving SMS and call recording started showing up from all corners of the OnePlus community.

In late August, reports surfaced suggesting that the duo was in line for their first bug-fixing update soon. OnePlus even chimed in with the reason for the delayed rollout, citing a serious bug related to the communication module.

And now, after months of waiting, owners of the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T are finally receiving the promised update to OxygenOS 10.0.1, the first incremental update since switching to Android 10.

As part of the update, OnePlus 5 and 5T users can finally enjoy electronic image stabilization (EIS) for improved photography alongside an updated September security patch level.

For some reason, though, only the 5T gets support for back gesture from the bottom of the screen.

Below is a summary of the changelog:

[System]
– Fixed the abnormal call recording issue
– Fixed the de-activated alarm issue when the phone was powered off
– Updated Android Security Patch to 2020. 09
– Updated GMS package to 2020.08

[Full Screen Gestures]
– Back gesture from the bottom of the screen is available (OP5T only)
[Camera]
– Electronic Image Stabilization has been added, bringing you the more stable shooting experience

The update is airborne and weighs in at a little over 250MB.

Apparently, the initial rollout is limited to the non-T variant, but not for too long, with the T variant expected to join the party soon, probably later this week.

Hey everyone,

We are starting to push the incremental roll-out of OxygenOS version 10.0.1 for the OnePlus 5 devices and the incremental roll-out for OnePlus 5T will soon follow.

OxygenOS 10 is the last major OS update for the 5 and 5T. Going forward, the best you can get is a custom skin based on Android 11, like this one here. But of course, you can expect a handful of security patches to come your way.

A techy. Besides phones, I also enjoy the farm, music, football, and, of course, food.
