One of the key strengths of Android as a platform is its diversity. Various OEMs have different takes on the same underlying platform and this leads to varied user experiences across the Android community.

OnePlus’s OxygenOS has gravitated around a clean, stock Android look and feel and while the company built in its own in-house Messaging, Contacts and Dialer apps, there has been a shift from those to Google’s own offers.

Admittedly, there is a section of OnePlus users that have been looking for the Google Phone and Messages experience on their device.

And for good reason. See, Google’s apps are clean and minimalistic, a trait that doesn’t exactly appeal to users who are privy to OnePlus’ own stock apps for these services.

In the recent past, we’ve seen disgruntled users of newer OnePlus devices with Google’s stock apps turn to OnePlus, asking to get these OnePlus stock apps due to their aesthetic and feature-rich nature.

OnePlus now bakes in Google’s stock apps in its newer devices in certain regions. With this, some users of the OnePlus Nord and OnePlus 8T find themselves with Google Phone and Google Messages instead of OnePlus’ own.

In the past, we’ve seen surveys such as this one that suggest users aren’t exactly happy with these apps and would much rather have OnePlus’ Phone and Messaging apps instead.

Well, we’ve speculated that OnePlus could very well oblige and roll out an update that would bring OnePlus’ Dialer and Messages app to these devices and today, we might finally have something concrete.

A screenshot of an alleged conversation between a OnePlus user and a company rep reveals that the company is indeed planning to bring OnePlus Dialer to OnePlus 8T and OnePlus Nord devices.

And not just the OnePlus Dialer. The same conversation reveals that fans of the OnePlus Messaging app are in luck as the company is also working on bringing it over as well.

This is despite the idea to replace the Google Dialer to OnePlus Dialer being listed as one of the ideas that will not be adopted in the IDEAS 2.0 Recap.

Admittedly, this is not much to go on but still, it is a ray of hope that OnePlus could bring back its feature-packed stock apps to these devices.

Features such as automatic call recording are missing from the OnePlus devices with Google’s Dialer despite Google’s offer supporting this feature. The same is available on the OnePlus Dialer and such issues only go to push even more people to lobby for this change.

We shall continue to follow this story and update as and when we get more info so stay tuned.
