OnePlus in discussion to emulate recent Samsung software update changes, says staff member

OnePlus rose to fame on the backs of enthusiasts who were out to get the best performance out of a device, the brand name notwithstanding. Through the years, the company has strived to do right by these techie users.

This, by listening to consumer requests and implementing them along with timely rollout of bug-fix updates and software updates alike. However, that has since changed.

The rollout of OnePlus’ Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 has been one of the murkiest in recent history, marred with stability issues, bugs and halted rollouts, not to mention the delays.

It is against this backdrop that the company is seemingly going back to the drawing board in a bid to try and streamline this process that they once dominated.

See, other OEMs are doing pretty well in terms of updates. Case in point, Samsung. The Koren tech giant has recently pledged 4 years of updates for its newer devices.

Along with that, we have seen general timeliness in rolling out both security patches and major Android version updates to its devices, regardless of just how vast the company’s catalog is.

Compare that to OnePlus’ pretty slim portfolio and you begin to see why indeed, the company needs to up its game in terms of updates.

One of the ways the company can come back to its lost glory is by publishing regularly-updated updates and maintenance schedules. And guess what, this just might be what the company is looking to do.

When asked by a OnePlus user about whether the company plans to release an update schedule like many other Android OEMs including Samsung, a staff member goes to confirm, acknowledging that this is in the works.

Admittedly, this is not much to go by and there could also be a possibility of this not materializing at all. However, for a company that has been on the ropes over its software deployment in the recent past, this is a move in the right direction.
