OnePlus is known for providing timely updates to its devices. While the global OnePlus devices run OxygenOS, devices in the home-country run HydrogenOS. OnePlus recently posted a Q&A on OnePlus community discussing user suggestions while addressing several issues present on HydrogenOS.

The OEM provided details about optimizing the OnePlus Buds headset while also acknowledging some issues and bug-fixes. It must be noted that most of the changes done on HydrogenOS eventually make their way to OxygenOS which is why it seems important to discuss the details.

It seems that certain OnePlus users find the persistent notification icon of the OnePlus Buds app annoying. This is because another icon appears on the status bar if a new notification arrives. The OnePlus community admin has responded that it was done to adapt to Google’s latest specifications.

Also, the admin mentioned that a new option will be added in the OnePlus Buds app settings so that the persistent notification icon can be manually disabled by users. While this may simply be a visual flaw for some users, the OEM has promised to address it efficiently.

Apart from this, users asked whether OnePlus Buds can be used with other Android phones to which the admin stated that a dedicated app will be launched to manage OnePlus audio accessories which will support devices running Android 6.0 Marshmallow and above.

Q: Why is the application notification set as a secondary notification and the status bar also displays an icon after receiving the notification?
A: In order to adapt to Google’s latest specifications, the application icon will also appear in the status bar when the secondary notification application sends a notification message. We will add a new setting option in the subsequent version update, users can choose to “hide or turn on the icon of the secondary notification message”. Please pay attention to the subsequent version updates of OnePlus Desktop.

Q: Can Buds be used with phones other than OnePlus or phones before OnePlus 6. Can you customize the double-tap touch function and upgrade the headset firmware?
A: We will launch a dedicated APP for managing OnePlus audio accessories in the future, which can support three-party Android phones with Android 6.0 and above, as well as OnePlus 3 / 3T / 5 / 5T, to realize the customization of OnePlus Buds double-tap touch function, and Headphone firmware upgrade. Stay tuned!

The upcoming app will also take care of OnePlus Buds firmware upgrade and double-tap touch function. Apart from this, some generic issues that are present on the HydrogenOS Open Beta updates have also been discussed.

That said, it is good to see that OnePlus is promptly addressing users’ concerns while also striving to deliver the best user experience possible. We will provide updates on the matter once more information becomes available.
