New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on December 31, 2020) follows:
OnePlus 8T was the first device from the company to ship out with its Android 11-based custom skin — OxygenOS 11 — out of the box.
In the few months that the device has been in the market, users have complained of numerous bugs and issues that presumably stem from the newly redesigned Android skin.
We’re maintaining a dedicated tracker that is following and logging these issues and you can check it out here.
While OnePlus is committed to putting out these fires via regular bug-fix and security updates, sometimes things don’t exactly go according to plan.
This couldn’t be more true for the recent update to the OnePlus 8T, OxygenOS 11.0.6.7. The update that aimed to fix a number of issues while bringing camera improvements seems to have brought with it a few more bugs and issues.
Yesterday we saw users running this update on their devices facing issues with device stability, laggy media playback and system crashes. More on that here.
While there is a workaround that seems to be working for many of these affected users, it is not the only issue that users running this new build are facing.
This, as users of the OnePlus 8T that have installed this new update report of issues with their Google Assistant’s ‘Ok Google’ and ‘Hey Google’ hotwords.
After updating to the recent update that came out today for 8t. Google Assistant won’t respond to voice, even after retraining. Audio from videos and music cut in and out every few seconds.

Some of the affected users also note that the basic troubleshooting procedures aren’t proving successful as some have resorted to resetting their devices, ensuring that all settings are turned on and so on.
Deleting the current voice and adding a new one is also not fixing the issue. This means that the only way for users of the OnePlus 8T to get a hold of the Google Assistant is by manually invoking it.
While the system lag and stuttering media playback issue in this build has been forwarded to the relevant teams, OnePlus is yet to come out to acknowledge this issue or provide a way forward.
At the time of writing, we still didn’t have a viable workaround to this issue as it remains unclear what caused it to break in the first place.
We shall continue to keep an eye on these user complaints and update as and when we get more info so stay tuned.
Update 1 (January 05)
New reports suggest that OnePlus is planning to roll out a hotfix update to users of OnePlus 8T running on OxygenOS 11.0.6.7. More on that here.
