OnePlus has been steadily improving the user experience on its Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 update for the OnePlus 8 series.
Those who are part of the OxygenOS public beta program recently received the OxygenOS Open Beta 5 update for their OnePlus 8 series devices.
The update brought many fixes for some underlying issues along with the December security patch. More on that here.
However, there was a small addition to the camera for which not much clarity was provided in the Open Beta 5 changelog.
Now, a Reddit user has shed some light on the new feature which basically enables a notification dot next to the front camera punch hole whenever the front camera is in use.
Looks like they now show a green dot next to the selfie camera punch hole when something is using your selfie camera. Nothing when back camera is used but that’s a nice step.
The feature does not get activated when the rear camera is in use nor does the green dot appears for new notifications.
Nevertheless, it is good to see that OnePlus is working on such a handy feature which can be further refined for device notification alerts.
While the new feature is currently available only for the public beta program members, it is highly likely that the said feature will hit the stable channel with future OxygenOS updates.
It must be noted that the front camera notification dot animation feature is already available on OnePlus 8T.
Hopefully, OnePlus also releases the same for OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro in a future OxygenOS 11 update soon.
That said, we will keep tracking the development of OxygenOS 11 and will provide more details once new information becomes available.
