New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on April 24, 2020) follows:

OnePlus upped its prices with the OnePlus 7/7T series and the same is happening again with the new OnePlus 8 series, the Pro variant the most affected by this change.

To be fair, though, it’s not just OnePlus devices that have become significantly more expensive in the recent past. Smartphone vendors have generally upped the prices of their high-end smartphones. Essentially, it seems the days of bargain OnePlus phones are dead and gone.

Both the standard OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro are offered in two variants of 8GB RAM/128GB storage and 12GB RAM/256GB storage. Like others before them, there is no microSD card slot and no headphone jack as well.

At 12GB RAM (LPDDR5) and 256GB UFS 3.0 flash storage, the top-end OnePlus 8 Pro is nearly unrivaled. OnePlus soups up things by including an IP68 rating, wireless charging, NFC, and USB-C 3.1, among others. For some reason, though, the device comes with a USB-C 2.0 cable in the box.

OnePlus will from now henceforth build 5G-capable smartphones. Of course, backward compatibility is still here. Carrier unlocked models of the 8 and 8 Pro come with support for the dual-SIM feature. Unfortunately, though, neither phone has an eSIM.

Currently, the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro dual-SIM variants can only use one 5G SIM at a time. The second SIM card slot is locked to 4G, something that is concerning some early adopters of the devices.

How is the dual SIM works in Oneplus 8 Pro?

1. Can you get dual 4G at the same time from different network providers?
2. Or 1 sim on 4G and the other on 5G?

Please let us know.

But a closer look at the product pages’ footnotes of both devices reveals that a future software OTA update will be pushed to the duo to enable support for simultaneous 5G or 4G support.

Currently supports dual 4G SIM and single 5G SIM operations. Upgrade for 5G/4G or 5G/5G dual SIM support will be implemented via OTA update.

So, if you have been looking to enjoy T-Mobile and Verizon 5G services on your OnePlus 8 Pro handset simultaneously, for instance, you’ll have to wait a little longer for the said OTA update. For now, though, we don’t know when it will be released.

Update 1 (August 17)

The latest OxygenOS 11 beta 3 update for the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro has finally enabled dual 5G+5G support on the devices. Therefore, users can now connect to a 5G network on both SIM cards freely. See the full story here.
