[Possible fix] OnePlus 7T & 7T Pro "Phone keeps stopping" issue after recent OxygenOS 10.3.6 update already being looked into

OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro users are reporting about an issue where the pre-installed Phone app keeps stopping following the recent OxygenOS 10.3.6 update.

Those who have been around the tech world long enough will know that it is not completely unusual for new software updates to tag along unwanted guests.

In fact, this is the very reason we keep track of various bugs and issues affecting not just OxygenOS 11, but also the likes of MIUI 12, Android 11 in general, and even some individual devices like OnePlus 8T and Poco F1.

That said, it was never going to be an easy sail for OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro owners. In addition to being subjected to long periods of waiting for OxygenOS 11 update, 7T series owners are now dealing with a broken Phone app.

I updated my OnePlus 7T to latest OTA last night and it probably messed Phone app. I cannot access dialer. Phone is now on 10.3.6.HD65AA. What to do? Cleared cache for app, already used “Wipe cache” from boot options

As you may already know, the primary function of any mobile phone is to communicate mainly through phone calls. But for some reason, the OnePlus 7T Phone app keeps stopping whenever it is launched.

Below is a screenshot of the error message the app returns after the recent update:

This hasn’t been the case for long, rather, affected users say the issue started showing up after the most recent OxygenOS 10.3.6 update that brought the October 2020 security patch.

It is unclear what exactly went wrong with the new software, but it is indeed clear that OxygenOS 10.3.6 update is the culprit. Granted, a newer update should address this issue.

Considering how important the Phone app is, we expect that OnePlus will be swift to address this matter, something a staff member does confirm, as seen below.

We would like to inform you that the issue is taken care by the developer and the issue will be fixed in the upcoming OTA updates.

While we would like to believe the next OTA update will resolve this issue, only OnePlus makes the decisions on this, so we have to wait and see what the immediate future holds for affected 7T and 7T Pro users.

11:59 am (IST): OnePlus has begun seeding a new update for the OnePlus 7T in India as version 10.3.7.HD65AA​. In the changelog, the company has mentioned that the update has fixed the “flashback issue with Phone app”.

While it isn’t immediately clear whether this is indeed a fix for the “Phone keeps stopping” issue, it’s likely that the problem might be fixed after installing this new update.

OnePlus, in its announcement, has claimed that the new update will be rolled out for European and Global units soon as version 10.0.15.HD65BA and 10.0.15.HD65AA respectively.

12:00 pm (IST): OnePlus has started rolling out a new update for the OnePlus 7T Pro as well with the following software versions for their respective regions:

EU: 10.0.13.HD01BA
GLO: 10.0.13.HD01AA
IN: 10.3.7.HD01AA​

Further, the update shares the same changelog as the latest update for the OnePlus 7T (shared above), which is to be expected. Therefore, it’s likely that it also fixes the “Phone keeps stopping” issue.
