New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…
Original story (published on March 30, 2021) follows:
So OnePlus has recently started rolling out stable builds of Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 to users of the OnePlus 7 series of devices. A long time coming as these builds were expected sooner.
As these device owners continue to savor in the Android 11 goodness on their devices, a section of users of OnePlus 7 devices are still waiting for this update.
Carriers are notoriously known for their insane delays on updates, especially big system updates such as this one to Android 11-based OxygenOS 11.
Yesterday, we got reports that T-Mobile was already testing out OxygenOS 11 for the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7 Pro with the OnePlus 7T Pro update still in development.
While T-Mobile is already working on its OxygenOS 11, other carriers are evidently a little behind with regards to their prospects of the same.
Today, users of the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G on EE are getting an update on their devices. However, this is not the much-awaited OxygenOS 11 build. Instead, it is the March 2020 security patch.
The OxygenOS 10.0.11 update for the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G has been reported by users in the EU (obviously) and the changelog alludes to little more than a bump in the GMS version and security patch level.
And this leads us to the big question on all OnePlus 7 Pro 5G user’s minds, when is this device set to get updated to Android 11?
Well, we still have no idea. At the time of writing, EE was yet to issue any timelines regarding this and if history is anything to go by, the wait might be on for quite some time.
However, all is not lost for these users. There is an easy fix for this that involves converting to EU firmware, albeit with a catch that you’ll lose a couple of features.
We shall continue to keep an eye on this Android 11 update for OnePlus 7 Pro 5G and report back as and when we get more info so stay tuned to our continued coverage of Android 11 deployment to OnePlus 7 devices.
Update 1 (June 02)
IST 07:20 pm: According to recent reports, the wait for the OxygenOS 11 (Android 11) update is still on as the EE OnePlus 7 Pro 5G variant bags another Android 10-based OxygenOS 10.0.12 update with May security patch.
