All the delays and recalled updates notwithstanding, we saw OnePlus finally rolling out stable Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 to the OnePlus 7 series of devices sometime in March 2021.

In true OnePlus fashion, the update did have a few glaring omissions such as the Always-on Display feature which OnePlus says was still buggy.

Today, it is coming to light that this isn’t the only issue with the devices’ Android 11 (OxygenOS 11) update. This, as a section of users report that the device’s high refresh rate might have an issue.

According to these users, their devices tend to exhibit lag and dropped frames and therefore, isn’t fully taking advantage of the 90Hz refresh rate display panels.

So I updated to oos 11, and it’s been great besides for I very often get a huge drop in what feels like the refresh rate randomly. Is there a new auto toggle for refresh rate or something?

I don’t know if this is happening to anyone else, or if someone has already posted about this before, but has the refresh rate of anyone’s phone that supports 90 hertz been stuttery? Whenever it happens, I have to switch back to 60, and again back to 90 in order for it to smooth out again. And even some games that I’ve been playing with fine until now we’re having issues.

Only way to get it to work fine seems to be restarting the device as the framedrops seem to recur after the phone has been on for a while.

I was using my phone after sometime later i again used my OnePlus 7 phone then my phone not worked smoothly on 90hz then i restart my phone then it again worked smoothly . Why this happened ??

issue acknowledged oneplus 7 90hz

This is admirable from OnePlus, going out of its way to take care of the welfare of its two-year-old flagships even at a time when attention seems to be on the new and flashy OnePlus 9 series.

In the meantime though, there could be a way to avert this issue, albeit temporarily until OnePlus comes around to fixing this issue.

There is an update for the issue. If you put OnePlus 7 90hz + qhd display resolution then there is no issue with screen. I tried it and it works fine. If anyone tried it please post ur results.

According to some users on the community forum, switching around the resolution + framerate combo seems to work well. This means users can switch to 60Hz then back to 90Hz to fix this temporarily.

We shall continue to follow this issue and update as and when we get the proper fix from OnePlus even as more reports (1,2) continue to come in so stay tuned to PiunikaWeb.
