The new version of Android, Android 11, is causing ripples in the Android community as many OEMs are clamouring to push out their respective skins to eligible devices.

While Android 11 might not exactly be a drastic departure from what we’ve come to expect from Android, other OEMs’ skinned versions of Android 11 are anything but subtle improvements.

OnePlus’ OxygenOS 11 is vastly different from its traditional stock-Android-inspired look and feel, adopting a Samsung One UI-inspired look. More on that here.

We’re closely following the development and rollout of OxygenOS 11 and you can check out our dedicated OxygenOS 11 tracker for more on this.

At the time of writing, OxygenOS 11 was officially available on the OnePlus 8T which ran this out of the box, and the OnePlus 8 series of devices.

So where does that leave the OnePlus 7 and other eligible devices? Well, initial reports indicated that the update wouldn’t come until 2021.

However, OnePlus has since confirmed with Android Authority that the company plans to roll out the OxygenOS 11 update for the OnePlus 7 series this year in December.

In line with this, today we’re seeing reports from the Chinese OnePlus Community Forum suggesting that the latest Android 10 Public Beta is likely the last one before Android 11.

The current version is the last public beta version based on Android 10. It is expected that a public beta version based on Android 11 will be launched by the end of the year. This version will receive a push of the public beta version based on Android 11.

The reports further suggest that Android 11 for the OnePlus 7 series of devices will be available as from later this year. While this particular info applies to the Chinese variants, it is also applicable to non-Chinese variants as well.

This info also corresponds with the unofficial OnePlus’ roadmap to Android 11 that surfaced a few days ago. This suggested that OxygenOS 11 for the OnePlus 7 devices would come in December 2020.

Should all this come to pass, OnePlus will have been done with the major part of its Android 11 deployment by the end of the year, leaving the OnePlus 6 and 6T to bag OxygenOS 11 in 2021.

We can only hope to see more OEMs fast-track their development and deployment of Android 11 to eligible devices as soon as possible.
