OBS, also known as Open Broadcaster Software, is a popular free and open-source software for live streaming and recording. However, some users are experiencing some issues with the audio on the platform.
The issue with audio cutting in and out has been reported (1,2,3,4,5) by several OBS users on various online forums and social media platforms.
Whats been happening is I record for 20min or 4 hours (doesnt matter) and sometimes when Im watching the footage back, gameplay audio will cut out completely and then start up again from where it left off, leaving the gameplay audio/visual out of sync and my audio/visual out of sync with the gameplay. But its unfixable since my audio is still synced and both my mic and the gameplay audio or recorded to the same track.

max audio buffering!!!!!!!!!!! OBS has become totally useless! I tried almost every setting alternate and the same happens. I’m a drummer trying to record instructional material for students and YouTube.

Users have complained that the audio for their recordings is unclear and keeps cutting in and out, making the recordings unusable.
Some users have also reported that the audio is misaligned, making the recording out of sync.
Upon researching, we found that the issue of audio cutting in and out can occur due to several reasons.
One possible cause is incorrect settings or insufficient bandwidth. This can lead to buffering and dropped frames, which in turn can cause the audio to cut in and out.
Another possible reason for this issue can be an overloaded CPU. OBS is a resource-intensive software, and if the CPU is already burdened with other tasks, it can lead to audio cutting in and out during recording.
Similarly, some users have reported the issue of no audio when they start recording, even though everything was running fine prior to that.
OBS not recording desktop audio whatsoever
I downloaded OBS to record my screen, I set it up normally but OBS flat won’t recognize any audio from my PC. No matter what I tried, I can’t get it to work and I’m at a loss. How do I get it to record audio?

This can happen due to several reasons which are not known to us as of now.
Potential workaround
Fortunately, we have come across a potential fix to solve the issue with no audio.
Changing the recording track settings and then switching to default track settings seems to solve the issue for some. But note that it may or may not work for everyone.
Additionally, OBS provides an active community forum where users can seek help and support from other OBS users and developers.
We hope that OBS addresses the problem at the earliest and provides a solution. But until then, keep tabs as we will update the story with further developments, if any.
