Secure Folder, as the name suggests, is an encrypted space for safe-keeping of your personal files/data on Galaxy smartphones, something which is achieved by using Samsung’s Knox security platform. Now, for past couple of weeks, users have been complaining (1,2,3) about missing home screen shortcuts for Secure Folder apps.

What’s now coming to light is that it’s not a bug, rather a change that Android Oreo update brought along. One of the moderators on the company’s official European help forum revealed the information to those complaining, saying

Hi guys. The software team have replied to me.
To confirm: Oreo does not allow users to have homescreen shortcuts to apps in the Secure Folder.

In addition, a redditor recently shared what they got to hear from Samsung, confirming the loss of the feature.

unfortunately, we can no longer support old type shortcut by the Google Android’s interface and policy change with Oreo update. The new policy restricts multi-short cut supports on the devices.

Similar confirmation can be found in the review section of the app’s Google Play listing, where the team confirmed the same while reverting back to one of the complainants.

Of course, users are disappointed, but there is a ray of hope. The moderator who offered the confirmation on Samsung forum also said:

However, in the light of the feedback you guys have given, our software team have made a suggestion to Samsung HQ to see if this can be changed. We’re unable to give a timescale for how that’ll go, but we’ll definitely keep you posted on any news we hear on it.

Fingers crossed. Lets see what Samsung does.
