New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on May 14, 2021) follows:
Nokia 8.1 (aka Nokia X7) was launched way back in 2018 with Android 9 out-of-the-box. Being part of the Android One program, the device was expected to have a smooth software update development journey.
The device recently received the Android 11 update that marks the fulfillment of two major OS update promise by Nokia.
Being differed by the initial roadmap and after waiting for long, Nokia 8.1 users have received an update that brings a bag full of bugs for them.
Nokia 8.1 users are all over the community and social media handles of the company complaining about the bugs that are impacting the optimal performance of the device.
There appear to be not just one but two different bugs that are proving to be a problem for users.
Network & WiFi automatically disabling
The Android 11 update on Nokia 8.1 has dropped the network & WiFi issue along with new features. As per the reports, this bug disables both network and WiFi and re-enables them after a few seconds automatically.
today I updated my Nokia 8.1 to android 11 has wifi/network issue, WiFi network goes every 10-20 sec, very bad decision, now my mobile is paperweight.
Thank you
This behavior won’t let device owners place a call for obvious reasons. The WiFi would automatically switch between different bands (2.4GHz and 5GHz) or gets turned off sometimes.
Fast charging not working
This is coupled with another issue where Nokia 8.1 that comes with an 18W fast charging brick has stopped juicing up the device quickly.
As reported by the users, when plugged into the supply, Nokia 8.1 doesn’t show or prove to be charging rapidly.
My 8.1 charging very slowly after android 11 update. Same with many users as on nokia community. Why Nokia?
fast charge is broken after android 11. Needs to turn off the phone for rapid charging. Please report the issue
This issue is prominent on some devices where it only charges rapidly when the device is turned off.
Another workaround is to disable the ambient display while charging. This should get rapid charging to work the way it should.
Even though Nokia users have been highlighting and raising complaints on social media channels, Nokia hasn’t paid any heed to these issues.
The brand seems more engrossed in the Android 11 update rollout so all these issues may go unheard for the time being.
We hope Nokia pays equal attention to improving the user experience after pushing the update as major updates like these always tend to bring bugs along.
That said, we will continue to track this issue and update here as soon as we have a word from the company or any of its representatives in this regard.
Update 1 (May 18, 2021)
IST 04:50 pm Nokia 2.4 users appear to be sailing on the same boat as Nokia 8.1 users after the Android 11 update.
Users claim the cellular network mostly remains weak, restricting them from making calls or send text messages.
Resetting the phone hasn’t worked either. The only way to make things work is to take the support of VoWiFi to make calls.
In the meantime, head towards our Nokia bugs and issues tracker to learn the status of ongoing issues.
