Update (July 10):

Company acknowledged Wifi connectivity issues on Nokia 7 plus. Details here.

Original story:

HMD’s mid-range Nokia 7 Plus was launched in March this year. So it’s been around four months since the device is available. While the launch apparently went smooth, for the past couple of months, however, users have been reporting about a serious touch screen problem with the phone.

The problem

Complainants say the handset’s screen becomes completely unresponsive to touches. The behavior is random, meaning there’s no set pattern as to when the device will throw up this touch screen issue.

In addition, there are also reports the device hangs. The following comments should give you an even better idea about what users are going through:

The device started hanging right from the first device setup. The screen keeps being unresponsive to touches all the time

Sometimes phone is working but its touch stops working

I have done all the solution which was provided by support team and I had visited to Nokia Service Centre also they reinstall the software but still I am facing same issue.

Going by reports (1,2,3,4, 5), a temporary workaround for touch screen unresponsiveness is to lock and the unlock the device.

I think its the touch that stops responding unless you lock and unlock the phone.

locking and unlocking makes screen usable again

I have to lock the phone and then again its touch start working

While it’s a relief there exists a work around, it is not practical to lock and unlock the phone every time. For example, users can have a really frustrating experience if they have to lock and unlock their unit while playing a game.

Those who could successfully demonstrate the problem at Nokia Service Center have been offered replacements (either screen or complete device). This indicates the company knows about the touch screen issue.

Some users were even told it’s something related to software, but if things don’t get normal, replacement is the only option.

I visited nokia service center and they informed me that i am facing this problem because i did software update on my mobile. The only resolution to solve this problem is to restore older software version (out of the box version). And if the problem still remains same then the handset has to be replaced

As of now, there’s no official word from Nokia/HMD on this problem. However, a Nokia forum moderator said they communicated the matter to the company, and was asked if any of the complainant is running the June update (click/tap the following image to view full size).

However, many users confirmed that the issue persists even after the June update.

I think it’d be better if the company officially acknowledges the issue, and offers a clarification on what is being done in this regard. Sitting silent isn’t helping the company in any way.
