Today, smartphones are very prevalent and we rely on them for so many tasks in our daily lives. As a result, we’ve seen mobile operating systems stepping up and being a lot more functional.

With this, comes the need to have these smartphones run predictably, consistently and reliably. This task lies squarely on the OEMs for these devices.

It is not uncommon to receive system updates on these smartphones. In fact, it is atrocious to not receive updates on your smartphone as that means you’re stuck with inherent bugs and vulnerabilities.

Today, Asus is looking to better the smartphone experience for users of its Asus Zenfone 7 and Zenfone 8 series of devices by pushing out an OTA to them.

This new update brings improvements to various aspects of the devices including an updated security patch level, VoLTE among others. Below is a detailed changelog for this update, 30.41.69.66, to the Zenfone 7 devices.

– Improved system stability(20210405)
– Updated Android security patch
– Enabled VoLTE/VoWifi on MTS/Tele2 (RU)
– Fixed issue which could cause Gboard settings to periodically change back to default values
– Fixed Status bar display issue
– Fixed reboot issue when using wifi hotspot ocassionally
– Fixed the problem of not seeing thumbnails in computer after upgrading Android11
– Added SMS type QR code support in ASUS Camera app

This update is rolling out to users of the Asus Zenfone 7 and Zenfone 7 Pro in various regions across the globe including:

Global
EU
Russia
Japan

Users of the Zenfone 8 series of devices haven’t been left out either. This, as a similar update is reportedly rolling out to Zenfone 8 and Zenfone 8 Flip users across the same regions mentioned above.

These updates bear software version numbers 30.11.51.57 for the Zenfone 8 and 30.11.55.50 for the Zenfone 8 Flip. The updates’ changelogs are somewhat similar to that of the Zenfone 7 series of devices and it is outlined below.

– Added gesture detection sensitivity in one-handed mode
– Added SMS type QR code support in ASUS Camera app
– Fixed the problem that some apps cannot be set to full-screen mode
– Fixed issue which could cause Gboard settings to periodically change back to default values
– Fixed Status bar display issue
– Improved issue where playback of Netflix HDR videos would stutter after a short while

To recall, we’ve recently seen the Zenfone 7 devices getting an update to stable Android 11, albeit with a few issues and mishaps.

We also know that there are camera algorithm enhancements in the works for the Zenfone 7 devices and we shall continue to keep an eye on that for more info.
