The Death God, Ryuk returns to the human world once more seeking apples to fill his gut. Four years after we’ve last seen Death Note updates, the manga returns with an 87-page long one-shot. Ryuk gives away the notebook of death to a new Kira by the name of Minoru but uses it in a very clever way.
Refusing to use the Death Note to take away lives, Minoru thought of selling it to the highest bidder. This is where the world leaders, including (and most notably) the United States of America president, Donald J. Trump enters the picture.
The new Kira
Minoru is a high school student with high passing scores in IQ tests but fails in school. Nevertheless, Ryuk chose him believing he will have the intelligence to use the Death Note without getting caught.
Unlike the time of Kira, the modern world makes it more difficult to use the Death Nte given the technological advances in terms of security. To save himself from any unwanted attention, Minoru devised a perfect plan to gain from the Death Note without using it for its intended purpose.
The perfect plan – or was it?
For Minoru’s plan to work, he returned the Death Note to Ryuk and told him to return in two years. When the two years were up, Ryuk returns with the Death Note and Minoru’s plan begins. Since he does not want to use the Death Note to kill people, he decided to sell it to the highest bidder.
To avoid the grid, he asked Ryuk to help announce the sale of the Death Note through a news station. Naturally, the famed notebook garnered countless bids that easily went up to millions of dollars.
Since the notebook has been made famous by Kira who was described as the worst mass-killing terrorist, the world leaders’ attention and bids were also caught.
Donald Trump made the first major bid of 500 Billion dollars. Followed almost immediately by China with one Trillion dollars. Finally, the highest bid goes to the United States with a whopping 10 Trillion US dollars.
The twist
With a new L on the background looking to foil the new Kira, a cunning way to trade the Death Note and the money was devised. On the day of sale, the 10 Trillion dollars had to be deposited in an equal amount to all Yotsuba Bank of Japan account holders ranging from 60 years of age and below.
This would ensure Minoru and many others a share of at least one Billion yen. Once payment was made, Ryuk delivers the Death Note to President Donald Trump. However, since the Death Note was not used as intended, the Shinigami King added a new rule.
Any human who sells or buys the Death Note in the human world will die. The seller will die when they receive the money, and the buyer will die when they receive the Death Note. Naturally, the character of President Trump refused to receive the Death Note but intended to announce otherwise to make the people revere him.
Sadly, Minoru Tanaka faced the same fate after receiving the payment in full one month later.
