The much anticipated US release of the animated movie, My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising, finally happened on February 26, 2020. The movie earned a stunning 2,526,900 US dollars on its first day taking the number one spot. Although its current ranking has gone down, it remained on the top 10 in the US opening weekend.
By the end of its opening weekend on March 1, 2020, My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising has earned 5,109,247 US dollars. The movie was anticipated to rank at number 6 at the end of its opening weekend, but it soldiered on at number 4.
Heroes Rising Japanese sales record
My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising movie was announced on March 23, 2019. The movie was released in Japan on December 20, 2019. It earned 420 million yen (about 3.9 million US dollars) in its first three days. It was 16 percent lower compared to the first movie.
However, with its 4DX/MX4D screening in 81 theatres in Japan, its sales increased exponentially. At the end of its screening, the movie earned a total of 1.73 billion yen (about 15 million US dollars). This easily placed the movie as the 7th top-grossing Japanese anime film of 2019.
US, Canada, and worldwide sales record
Currently, the gross domestic sales of My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising in the US and Canada is 8,482,448 US dollars. It has an average of 2,000 dollar daily sales per theatre in over 1,260 theatres. The worldwide gross sales have now gone up to 23,586,563 US dollars.
The film is also scheduled to be released on March 12, 2020, in Australia and New Zealand.
Synopsis
The film introduces a new villain named Nine who is considered the greatest villain thus far.
Class 1-A visits Nabu Island where they finally get to do some real hero work. The place is so peaceful that it’s more like a vacation until they’re attacked by a villain with an unfathomable Quirk! His power is eerily familiar, and it looks like Shigaraki had a hand in the plan. But with All Might retired and citizens’ lives on the line, there’s no time for questions. Deku and his friends are the next generation of heroes, and they’re the island’s only hope.
My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising is directed by Kenji Nagasaki. The same person who has directed the first movie and the four seasons of the anime. Yoshihiko Umakoshi is in charge of character designs, while Yosuke Kuroda provided the script. Yuki Hayashi composed the music for the new film, while series creator Kohei Horikoshi contributed new character designs and acts as a creative supervisor.
