Motorola is one of those OEMs that has preferred and went ahead with the raw and vanilla Android UI, which is greatly appreciated by the users. However, that does not always result in rapid or timely updates from the OEM.
Well, Motorola’s most popular and successful lineup is, without a doubt, the Moto G-lineup. But, the brand is yet to completely roll out the Android 10 OS for its, previous-gen G-series phones, the Moto G7, and Moto G7 Power.
Both the phones came our in early 2019 with Android 9 Pie out of the box and are still awaiting their first Android firmware upgrade in the form of Android 10.
It was previously reported, back in March, that the Android 10 update for the Motorola Moto G7 will be pushed somewhere in Q2 of 2020. Which was later on contained to the month of July.
And since, we have freshly entered the month of May, both the Moto G7 and Moto G7 Power are now grabbing a new security update. As per recent reports, both the Motorola devices are getting the April 2020 security patchset.
Besides, the update does not carry anything to cheer for as it is purely incremental in nature and bumps the security patch level to April. The update for the Moto G7 comes with version PPOS29.114-134-14, while the Moto G7 Power arrives with PPOS29.114-134-13.
The Android 10 Kernel source code went live for both the Moto G7 and G7 Power which enabled the developers to come up with an Android 10 based custom ROM.
And guess what? You can get your hands on the Android 10 OS even before the official OTA arrives. Albeit, you need to have a rooted Moto G7 or the Moto G7 Power.
The way is to simply flash the official LineageOS 17.1 Android 10 based custom ROMs on your phone as they are now available for both the Moto G7 and Moto G7 Power. For those who wish to stay official, they can wait for the official ROM to arrive on their Motorola phones via OTA somewhere in July 2020.
