This story is being continuously updated…. New updates are being added at the bottom…..
Original story (from May 12) follows:
When it comes to smartphones, there are so many options these days as almost every OEM aims to offer the best specs-to-rice ratio. The American phone maker Motorola is also trying to hold up it’s dying market with their newest release – Motorola Edge Plus (or Motorola Edge+).
Edge+ comes with the massive 5000MAh battery, which is claimed last up to two days despite streaming Netflix, Gaming, etc. the phone comes baked with Snapdragon 865 processor and sports a high resolution 108MP camera.
Keeping aside good talks, a major concern of Motorola device users is software updates. After all the American OEM doesn’t believe in a minimum of 2 major OS updates and 3 years of software update support for every device (the plight of Moto g series is hidden from none).
Coming to Motorola Edge+, for now, the device has been assured to get 1 major OS upgrade, i.e. Android 11/R, apart from the regular security patches. The information came from a Motorola spokesperson:
While we don’t have an absolute commitment to numbers of upgrades, Edge consumers can expect security updates every other month and an upgrade to Android 11 OS this year. Additionally, we’re looking to the Play Store updates to bring new features and address consumer concerns faster.
This, of course, raises concern that the OEM may plan to give the second upgrade i.e. Android 12/S. The phone comes baked with Android 10 out of the box, and the company hasn’t mentioned anything apart from Android 11 and regular security stuff.
That’s kind of unfair. After shelling about USD 1000, the least one can expect from high-end phones like Edge+ are two major OS updates if not more. But then it’s Motorola, and they don’t believe in following the practices adhered by the rest of the smartphone makers (even when their market is doomed).
To put it simply, right after the release, the OEM has given buyers a reason good enough to go for smartphones by other makers that at least meet up their basic expectations in terms of features, price quotient and software support. What’s your take about this? Share with us in the comments.
Update 1 (May 13)
Motorola has now changed its stance on the matter. Going by a report, the OEM now promises “at least two Android OS upgrades.” So the device will get Android 11 as well as Android 12 in the future.
