Motorola Edge 20 may get Hi-Res Audio playback support via future update, says forum admin

The Motorola Edge 20 is the latest upper mid-range smartphone from the Lenovo-owned smartphone maker that was first launched in Europe and has now made its way over to India too.

It comes with Android 11 pre-installed along with some of the best specifications for its price, including a 108 MP primary sensor, and the brand spanking new Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 5G chipset.

The device also sports a 144Hz OLED display, which isn’t something we see on most phones in the price segment. Kudos to Motorola for not pushing another sub-par smartphone.

That said, like any other smartphone irrespective of the price, the Edge 20 also has a couple of flaws or is missing certain features that may be a disappointment to some.

One such con is the lack of support for Hi-Res Audio playback on the Motorola Edge 20. Of course, some may not even bat an eye at this, however, audiophiles will agree that’s a major let down.

While the company’s official marketing jargon does not indicate whether or not the Motorola Edge 20 supports Hi-Res Audio, a forum admin did confirm the unfortunate news in response to a user’s query.

Here is what I got back for the Audio questions. The phone does not natively support FLAC playback. As for Hi-Res, at launch, it will not support hi-res playback. (Source)

The admin’s response suggests that the device does not even support FLAC files natively, although you can play FLAC files via third-party apps such as Poweramp.

But there’s still some hope for Motorola Edge 20 users who want support for Hi-Res Audio playback on their smartphones as the forum admin further confirmed that there’s a possibility that the company may bring Hi-Res Audio playback support via a future update.

Needless to say, this does not guarantee that the device will get Hi-Res Audio support via an update, but at least you may find some solace in the fact that the company is considering the option.
