MIUI 12 for Redmi Note 8 should be "coming soon" as device gets a potential preparatory Pie-based update

The past few months in the Xiaomi Community have been all about MIUI 12. And for good reason. This new custom skin brings so much to eligible devices.

A heavy UI redesign, swanky new wallpapers, a new Control Center, and countless new privacy features just to mention a few.

If everything goes according to plan, chances are that we should see the conclusion of this rollout by the end of this month.

Even as Xiaomi plans for the completion of this update rollout, there are still a bunch of eligible devices that are yet to bag this, now overdue, MIUI 12 update. One such device is the Redmi Note 8.

We’ve taken a deep dive into the twists and turns surrounding Redmi Note 8’s MIUI 12 build and you can check out our coverage of the same here. The short version of it all is that, this update is expected this October.

Well, it appears as though the wait is still on. This, because today, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 is picking up yet another update that is still based on MIUI 11 and Android 9 Pie.

This new update arrives as V11.0.11.0.PCOMIXM, up from V11.0.10.0.PCOMIXM via an OTA weighing in at 173MB.

Interesting to note is that the changelog is a little vague in that, it carries no new security patch, no new features, and no bug fixes. This could mean that this is a preparatory update that is meant to lay the ground for the MIUI 12 update for the Redmi Note 8.

When asked about this update by a user on the MIUI ROM subforum, a moderator had this to say.

It is security patch and minor bugs fix update. Hopefully, MIUI 12 update for Redmi Note 8 will receive very soon. But no ETA for update. Please stay tuned in Community for official update announcement.

This doesn’t really inspire confidence in the way users of the Note 8 would like but since they don’t have a choice, the wait is still on!
