The Xiaomi Mi CC9e and the Redmi Note 7 series are some pretty similar-looking devices. And it’s not just the looks that make them alike as the devices also have matching spec sheets.

For starters, they come with Snapdragon 600 series processors that aren’t too different in terms of performance. This is combined with the fact that all of them have a 48 MP primary sensor.

But the Mi CC9e does stand out due to one factor – it is limited to China alone. It still sells with a different name in the global market though as the Mi A3. However, the Mi A3 runs stock Android instead of MIUI.

Nonetheless, all of the aforementioned phones were launched early to mid-2019 with Android Pie out of the box and have since been updated to Android 10 and MIUI 12.

The devices were also a part of the MIUI 12.5 beta program and have actively been receiving development version updates almost twice every week, until now.

Being released back in 2019 means that the phones have now neared the end of their official software update support of around two years. Xiaomi reminded this previously in their beta release notes:

Starting from April 24, 2021, Redmi Note 7, Redmi Note 7 Pro, Mi CC9e will stop the development version internal beta test, thank you for your understanding.

And now that the dreaded day is here, the Redmi Note 7, Redmi Note 7 Pro, and the Mi CC9e have bagged their final MIUI 12.5 beta update carrying a version number of 21.4.21/22. The changelog and download links for this have been given below:

These were officially rolled out to users part of the Chinese MIUI 12.5 internal beta program but are still installable for global users as well, provided that the bootloader is unlocked.

However, installing the builds isn’t recommended as they have hit the end of the road, and no future updates will be rolled out via the same channel to address some of the existing bugs and performance issues.

It will make more sense to instead stick to the latest global or Xiaomi.eu stable ROM as it has been reported as being smoother and less buggy. Also, you will get an OTA update over MIUI 12 global build if MIUI 12.5 stable arrives.

Yeah, you heard that right. Just because beta releases have ceased doesn’t mean that the Redmi Note 7, Redmi Note 7 Pro, and the Mi CC9e won’t make it to MIUI 12.5 stable.

Specifics regarding the release have still not been given out. But considering that the 2nd batch of MIUI 12.5 stable rollout is set to begin in late May, it can take up to a couple of months more following that.

For now, be sure to keep an eye on our dedicated MIUI 12.5 update tracker because we will be updating it as soon as the updates arrive.
