Xiaomi’s MIUI, a highly customized version of the stock Android OS, comes preloaded with its own set of apps. Two of them, i.e. the Mi System Launcher and the Mi Video Player has been updated with pretty nifty features.

For the uninitiated, the method of accessing apps is what differentiated it from other custom launchers. All the apps in Mi System Launcher are directly placed on the home screen itself, rather than having a dedicated app drawer.

That is, you could swipe in either direction across the device’s home screen to access them. However, that is about to change. The latest update to the Mi System Launcher v4.15.0.1437-02271559 has seen the introduction of the app drawer section.

A few months back, the app also witnessed the addition of a 5×6 screen layout, similar to what POCO launcher has to offer.

Furthermore, it has also added the option to categorize various preinstalled apps on your devices. Some other features to be welcomed in this update include the ability to adjust the UI of the app drawer, change icon size and further optimization of animations for the editing mode.

The app already provides support for a plethora of themes for customization purpose. You could also choose from numerous icon packs, fonts, and dial pad tones. Another useful feature is the ability to uninstall or move many apps at once.

Now, with the addition of the app drawer, the Mi System Launcher is definitely going to add on a few more friends. Along the same lines, the Mi Video app v2020030600 has been blessed with many new features. The one that is likely to generate maximum interest is the addition of live channels.

Till now, you could browse content from Sony LIV, Hungama and Voot. Likewise, the app also recommends YouTube videos. These are curated and personalized based on your topic of interest. Now, the inception of live TV channels could definitely prove to be a big boost to the app.

Furthermore, to improve the viewing experience, there is an introduction to the Reveal Video feature. Some bug fixes and the addition of further playback control options round off this update.

For the unaware, the Mi Video app is compatible with many different video extensions including AVI, MP4, MOV, MKV, FLV, 3GP, MPG, MPEG, M2TS, etc. The quick gestures allow you to play/pause videos or toggle volume/brightness slider.

The app already has support for multi-lingual subtitles and multiple audio tracks. Furthermore, you could also hide your personal media files inside the Private folder. And now, the introduction of Live TV Channels will definitely add more feathers to its cap.

To conclude, the addition of app drawer in the Mi System Launcher and the Live TV channels to the Mi Video Player are definitely a welcome move. What are your views on this? Do let us know the same in the comments section below.
