Original story (from September 01) follows:

According to the latest worldwide Mobile Vendor Market Share data from Statcounter, Xiaomi is the fourth-largest smartphone vendor in the world as of August 2020. The company trails behind industry giants Samsung, Apple, and Huawei.

Accounting for up to 8.89% of total smartphone sales, it is no secret that Xiaomi does have a massive user-base. This, therefore, means that even the slightest issue with Xiaomi’s devices affects millions of users across markets where Xiaomi sells its devices.

Launched back in May 2020, this device is a slightly watered-down version of the Xiaomi Mi Note 10. It is no slouch either. The Mi Note 10 Lite packs a very capable Snapdragon 730G, a 5260mAh cell, and pairs that with 6-8GB of RAM.

The device ran Android 10 with MIUI 11 out of the box and is in line for an update to MIUI 12. However, things haven’t been all well with users of this device. According to reports, a section of Mi Note 10 Lite users are reporting an issue with the device’s proximity sensor.

According to affected users, the Mi Note 10 Lite’s proximity sensor is fussy and does not work consistently as expected. The affected users report that as a result of the proximity sensor issue, their devices would blackout randomly and an even more serious occurrence makes the affected users unable to end calls.

This can be a rather frustrating issue to live with on your primary device. To recall, sometime back in 2019, we saw reports of this device’s beefier brother, the Xiaomi Mi Note 10, having a similar proximity sensor issue. That issue was fixed in a MIUI 11-based update back in December 2019.

According to a moderator, this issue is likely to get fixed in an upcoming update. When asked by a user about this issue, the moderator proceeds to acknowledge this issue and promises a fix soon.

Hey,

This is a known issue and will be fixed in coming updates.

While the moderator does not explicitly confirm that the upcoming update will be the MIUI 12 build for the Mi Note 10 Lite, that is the most likely update seeing as the device is in line for that build. However, this is speculative as we haven’t received any official communication from Xiaomi on the same.

For now, we can only hope that Xiaomi addresses this rather annoying issue once and for all. We shall continue to keep an eye on this upcoming build so you might want to stay tuned to our dedicated Xiaomi section to be the first to know when it drops.
