Xiaomi Mi CC9 Meitu Edition MIUI 12.5 update begins rolling out in China

The Xiaomi Mi CC9 Meitu Edition was announced back in July 2019 along with Mi CC9 and Mi CC9e. The series goes by different names globally though – the Mi CC9 is called Mi 9 Lite while the Mi CC9e is also known as Mi A3.

Anyway, the Xiaomi Mi CC9 Meitu Edition came with Android Pie out of the box and has since been updated to Android 11-based MIUI 12. Since then, the wait has been on for MIUI 12.5.

The same can’t be said about the poor old Mi CC9e though since there’s still no news of Android 11 for it even though its global counterpart – Mi A3 – is already running the same.

The device was even recently dropped from the MIUI 12.5 beta program indicating that it has neared the end of its software development support.

Thankfully, things still look rosy ahead for the Mi CC9 Meitu Edition as it has now become a part of the initial MIUI 12.5 rollout gang joining the likes of the newly-released Redmi K40.

For the uninitiated, the MIUI 12.5 update brings along several goodies including improved performance, UI tweaks, new animations and system sounds, a bunch of privacy features, and an updated Notes app. Full changelog can be found here.

Of course, the Mi CC9 Meitu Edition is a China-exclusive device with no global counterpart. Still, it is virtually the same as the Mi CC9, apart from upgraded cameras.

And as already mentioned, the Mi CC9 does have a global variant that goes by the name of Mi 9 Lite. Considering that the Mi CC9 Meitu Edition has now already bagged MIUI 12.5, the Mi CC9 shouldn’t be far off from being treated to the same as well, at least in China.

A global release may still take time though given that a bunch of Xiaomi devices has already been updated to MIUI 12.5 stable but there’s still no news of a global rollout.
