Xiaomi Mi A1 launched in September 2017 and quickly became a fan favorite owing to its clean, Android One software that aimed at taking full advantage of the great hardware the device packs.

At a fraction of the usual price paid to have a similar clean Android experience, there is no way the Mi A1 wasn’t going to become a hit. True to this, the device remains my favorite in the brief list of Xiaomi Android One smartphones, including the newest of them all, the Mi A3.

Having arrived powered by Android Nougat out of the box, the Mi A1 was guaranteed regular software updates released on time. To this date, Xiaomi has more than kept its word on this, proving monthly security patches to the device in addition to two major OS upgrades.

As of this writing, the Mi A1 sits on Android Pie, the second and last major OS update as promised by Google’s Android One program. Sure, owners of the Mi A1 wouldn’t mind a third OS update to Android 10, but the company has more than done its part as required by the big G.

What remains is for the devs to complete the journey by providing the device with a third year of regular security updates, one of which is just rolling out as you read this.
