Can't reply to texts in Android Auto from AndroidAuto
Of late, if Android Auto is acting up when asked to revert back to a text message – goes quiet after saying something like ‘Noted’, ‘Copy’ ‘Heard that’ or ‘I hear you’, instead of asking for the message that you wish to send – then you aren’t the only one complaining.
Multiple android device users have been reporting the same on the Android Auto’s official help forum (1,2) and Reddit. Going by reports, the glitchy replying behaviour shows up irrespective of whether you are using the app or replying through your car’s head unit.
Users say…
If I receive a text while using Android Auto and tell it that I want to reply it responds with one of a few different messages including “OH” or it will say “Noted” or might say “copy” and will never ask me my actual message. My phone is a Pixel 1 and this is a new issue. It used to work just fine. Even if im not in the car and using voice commands within the app it will give me the same responses. So I feel that its not the radio but some setting that is not letting me respond. It does however let me initiate text messages. I am baffled.
After Android auto reads me a text, it asks if I want to reply. No matter what I say, it does not send a reply. In fact, if I respond to the question of whether I want to reply by saying yes, it says something silly like “heard that!” but does not ask for my reply.
Google suggested workaround
The company is aware of the issue in question. Some one from Android Auto team not only acknowledged the problem, but also added that a fix is being worked on.
Here’s what they said while addressing the complainants on a relevant thread on AA community:
We’re aware of this, and it’s been forwarded to the rest of the team.
Furthermore, they also suggested the affected users to use different voice commands like “yes, please reply” and “yes, I want to reply“, until the team fixes up whatever’s causing the glitch.
In the meantime, you can use “yes, please reply” and “yes, I want to reply” until “yes” gets fixed.
While Google take’s care of what’s broken, those of you encountering the issue in question can reply to text messages through Android Auto by using the above-mentioned voice commands (that have received thumbs up by multiple complainants) .
Rest assured, we are keeping a tab on all related developments, and will update the story as and when the promised fix gets live.
