Among LG phones compatible with Android Pie, LG V40 ThinQ is one that was targeted to be upgraded by Q2 this year (which we are through with). LG V40 ThinQ is the South Korean OEM’s 2018 high-end device powered by Snapdragon 845 SoC. It comes with Android 8.1 (Oreo) out of the box.

Back in May, Verizon was the first US carrier to push Android 9.0 Pie to LG V40, followed by AT&T and US- Cellular. The update then arrived on European region devices, unlocked variants, & T-Mobile units recently. But many users still await the Pie update.

Case in point, the Sprint network in the US, which is yet to roll out the update. And there’s still no clarity as to when exactly that will happen. Additionally, how can we forget LG V40 devices in the Indian region? “Soon” is all they’ve been getting to hear, as we’ve stated before.

But looks like there has been some progress as LG V40 units in some of the Asian regions are now getting the much-awaited Android Pie update. We are getting reports about Pie’s arrival at least from users in Singapore and Hong Kong.

The update (~1.5GB) bears version number either V20b or V20a, and brings along the June security patch instead of the latest one. Following are some user shared images of Android 9.0 Pie update software info screen/notification on their units in Singapore (left image) and Hong Kong (right image).

So the wait is over at least for some LG V40 users. However, as is usually the case with firmware updates, they’re rolled out in batches, so Android Pie may take time to make it to all LG V40 units in Singapore and Hong Kong region.

Anyway, this development must give more hope to V40 users in India who’ve been eager to receive the update. Here’s hoping they also get the patch soon.

Rest assured, we are keeping a close watch, and will let you know as and when more newsworthy information about the update comes to our sight. So keep a tab on this space.

Update 1

Android Pie is not hitting LG V40 units in India. Details here.

NOTE: Among LG V series’ devices, Pie is also being tested on LG V20 in South Korea, and beta build for Pie has been leaked for LG V30. So Pie should be coming on both LG V20 and V30 units sometime soon. For more LG-related news, updates, bugs/issues, interested readers may head here.
