Here’s the crux of the article in video form:

5G Standalone has been made accessible on a limited number of carriers and devices, but in the US, only T-Mobile offers this service.

While only a few Android devices offer this fast network since it launched last November, the most recent iOS 16.4 update also makes the option available on iPhones after years of testing.

However, some iPhone users are perplexed as to why they either don’t have the 5G SA option following the iOS 16.4 upgrade.

As a result, a fraction of users (1,2,3,4) are now complaining that the 5G SA (Standalone) option is missing after updating their devices to iOS 16.4.

Reports indicate that users are not able to access the option anywhere in the ‘Voice and Data’ tab or anywhere in the ‘Mobile Data’ category for that matter.

It appears that users who use Verizon and AT&T are unlikely to have access to the 5G Standalone option or it might appear grayed out. Apparently, Verizon and AT&T still use NSA mode rather than installing the 5G SA equipment.

In fact, AT&T appears to have little interest in deploying the 5G SA. For reference, you can check out the image attached below:

So, the same justification applies to those who reside in other nations. Their provider must first enable this network before they can see the toggle in their preferences.

Hence, only Vivo or Claro (Brazil) has so far been verified to enable 5G SA on iOS 16.4 apart from T-Mobile.

Do you have t-mobile in the US or Vivo/Claro in Brazil?
Those are the only carriers offering standalone 5G.
