iOS 15 beta removed setting to activate Do Not Disturb (DND) & silence while phone is locked, as per reports

Do Not Disturb (DND) is a feature on iPhone that comes in handy for periods when you desire not to be disturbed or interrupted, such as during formal events, while sleeping, or simply when you want some peace and quiet.

The feature is quite smart too as you can configure it to repeat at a certain time of the day daily and even add exceptions for selected contacts to allow their calls to go through even if DND is toggled on.

It can be accessed via Settings > Do Not Disturb and basically functions by stopping notifications, alerts, and calls from making any noise, vibration, or lighting up the screen when the screen is locked.

On iOS 14, DND offered two options – the default one that silences the phone only when it was locked and another more ‘extreme’ one that keeps the phone quiet even with the screen on.

But the OS version is set to be replaced soon as iOS 15 development is currently in full swing. For the uninitiated, the update brings Facetime updates, Focus, notifications redesign, Live Text, Safari redesign, and much more.

Unfortunately, for DND lovers, the update is a major downgrade when it comes to the feature. This is because DND on iOS 15 beta has now done away with “Silence: While iPhone is Locked” and instead only offers the “Always” mode which keeps the phone silent even when in use.

Now, some users can argue that an alternative has been provided under Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb where you can select the option that prevents all apps from sending notifications.

However, the said iOS 15 option doesn’t function like the “Silence: While iPhone is Locked” DND feature at all because if you select no apps, you don’t get any notifications even when using your phone.

It isn’t clear at the moment if the missing DND mode is a deliberate removal or is a bug. Either way, we are positive that Apple will either be adding it back or instead introduce something better as a replacement.

You can also always coax Apple into adding it back if the omission was indeed intentional through the Apple iPhone Feedback portal.
