[Updated] Instagram 'Notes' feature met with criticism from a section of users

Instagram is a popular photo and video-sharing platform that allows users to explore or share similar interests, or build a community.

In order to enhance the experience, it consistently receives updates and improvements. However, like any other social media platform, it does face bugs and issues that negatively impact users.

For instance, we recently covered a problem where Instagram was showing NSFW content on the ‘Explore’ page.

The most recent update of the app witnesses a brand new feature known as ‘Notes’. However, things may not be going so well for the latest addition.

Instagram ‘Notes’ feature criticised

‘Notes’ allow users to share their thoughts or know what their friends and family are up to. The bubble-shaped feature has a limit of 60 characters which can have both text and emojis.

A ‘Note’ is basically a temporary status that stays on top of users’ inboxes for up to 24 hours.

However, reports (1,2,3,4,5) suggest that the new feature is facing wide criticism from users. The disappointment is because they feel that it doesn’t serve any purpose and should be turned off.

Many just find the ‘Notes’ on top of their DMs to be incredibly annoying and distracting at times. This is forcing many to spend extra time trying to mute them on the platform.

‘Notes’ not showing up

While the feature is facing a lot of criticism, some unfortunate (or fortunate) folks are yet to receive it in their Instagram app.

Users are experiencing an issue where ‘Notes’ are not showing up for them while their friends can easily access. This makes them feel left out and desperate to try it themselves.

Though the ‘Notes’ feature on Instagram has met with a lot of criticism, the developers have not yet acknowledged the issue.

03:44 pm (IST): New updates usually roll out in phases and may take some time to reach all the users. So, this could be one of the reasons why ‘Notes’ feature isn’t showing up.

Additionally, the availability of it could vary according to region or country and this could be another reason. So, for now we’d suggest users to wait patiently and keep the app up-to-date.
