Update: The issue has been fixed.

Original story follows:

We’re seeing a very large number of reports about the Instagram app crashing on Android phones. From Google Pixel users to those with Samsung, Huawei, or a OnePlus are all reporting the problem.

Instagram is reportedly aware of the issue. Someone who reached out to Google got to hear the following from their customer support:

It’s a known issue with the Instagram app and they are getting a lot of requests about the error. We have escalated the issue to our specialists and hopefully the app developer will resolve soon

One workaround that seems to have did the trick for many users is uninstalling and re-installing the app from the Play Store. The other one involves force stopping the app and clearing the app cache. You can try these out until Instagram comes up with an official fix. Some users even say the beta version of the app works fine.

Given the app’s popularity, there’s a flood of complaints on Twitter. Over on Reddit, there are already multiple threads with hundreds of reports about the problem.
