Infinix might not exactly be a global brand but in the markets that it operates in, it dominates. Case in point, according to StatCounter, Infinix stands fifth in Mobile Vendor Marketshare ranking for Africa, only losing out to industry giants like Samsung, Huawei, Apple and its sister brand, Tecno.

One area where Infinix isn’t doing that well, at least compared to fellow Chinese OEMs, is when it comes to rolling out updates to its devices, be they regular security patches or even Android version updates.

Users of the Infinix Hot 8 are an example of this. Infinix launched the Hot 8 way back in September 2019, running Android 9.0 with the company’s skin on top of Android, XOS 5.0. More than 10 months into the life of the device and Android 10 is nowhere in sight.

Back in March, Dealntech reached out to Infinix, trying to find out when the company plans to roll out Android 10 to the Hot 8 and the company’s response was as non-committal as they come.

Five months later and nothing has been forthcoming from the company yet. As such, users of the Infinix Hot 8 have resorted to petitioning the company to oblige, using Change.org as their rallying platform.

As Infinix Hot 8 was the most sold device of the past year of Infinix.

We want Infinix to provide XOS 6.0.1 (Android 10) for all the varients of the INFINIX HOT 8.

Please sign this petition and share so that Infinix will look into this matter and provide us the latest Android Update asap!

At the time of writing, 1,288 users had signed this petition, edging it ever closer to the target of 1,500 signatories. It remains to be seen whether Infinix will oblige and push out an Android 10 update to these users. We shall continue to keep an eye on this story and update as, or when we get new information from Infinix.
