MIUI 12.5/MIUI 12 missing background blur in folders & option to take partial screenshots? Here's how to add them back

If you own a recent Xiaomi device, your phone might be running on the latest version of MIUI, i.e., MIUI 12/12.5.

The latest Android skin from the Chinese manufacturer brings in a lot of new features and performance improvements.

Having said that, Xiaomi device owners were excited when they heard that the OEM would bring features such as partial screenshots and background blur in folders.

But, the device manufacturer removed some of the much-awaited features such as Control Center and Gaussian Blur on low and mid-range devices to improve user experience and performance.

However, users quickly found a workaround to enable the aforementioned features.

In case your MIUI device is missing the partial screenshot feature or the ability to blur the background in folders, we have come across some ways that will help you bring back these features without rooting your phone.

In order to enable these features, you will need to download the SetEdit app from Google Play Store.

A YouTuber has shared with us a way to bring back the Partial screenshot and background blur in folders — features that Xiaomi has disabled on some devices running MIUI 12/12.5 citing performance reasons.

Enabling both features involves pressing the “Add New Setting” button in the SetEdit app.

If you want to enable the partial screenshot feature, you will need to type “three_gesture_long_press” in the setting name and set the value to “partial_screen_shot”. Make sure you press the save changes button after entering the setting name and value, otherwise no changes will be made.

You can check if it is enabled by swiping down three fingers on the screen and taking a screenshot. If the partial screenshot feature is working, you will have the option to select the area you want to take a screenshot of. In case it isn’t, you may have to reboot your phone.

The process is quite similar if you want to enable background blur in folders. After launching SetEdit, instead of adding an entry, you will have to find the entry named “deviceLevelList” and press on the “Edit value” button.

Just change the value from “v:1,c:2,g:2” to “v:1,c:3,g:3” and save the changes. Also, you will need to download the MIUI System Launcher which you can download here. Now, restart your phone, and you will be able to see the background getting blurred when viewing folders in the system launcher.
