According to a Reddit user, individually enabling the Soundcheck option in the HomePod settings may fix the said issues.

Apart from that, another Reddit user has said that changing the Siri voice in the HomePod settings might also work.

The user further explained that changing the Siri voice will download new voice models further triggering the iOS 14.5 update to appear for the device.

I found this on accident. Go into each HomePods settings, and enable soundcheck. Wait a couple seconds and the update will be available to install.
