Much has been said about Twitter in recent weeks since its acquisition by Elon Musk was confirmed. The changes applied by the new owner have had comments both for and against.

One of the consequences of the management change is the birth of new competitors in the social platforms segment. For Instance, we have already covered some issues related to Mastodon and Hive Social.

Hive Social is fairly new and is currently run by just 3 people. So, it is to be expected that there will be many things to improve and bugs to fix.

That said, Hive Social users report that ‘username duplication’ for impersonation is possible on the platform. Also, others are having problems receiving the confirmation email.

Profile impersonation is one of the most serious problems on social platforms. In fact, the Twitter ‘Blue Verified’ feature relaunch is currently on hold until the team finds an ideal solution to handle this very same problem.

Hive Social is not free from this problem, and it is present in quite severe form. Currently, Hive Social allows username duplication, so multiple users can share the same nickname.

For anyone using the new @TheHive_Social please be aware that your @ username is not protected and anyone (literally ANYONE) can use it. Be cautious. I’m sure in future updates this problem will be fixed 💕

Quick question @TheHIVE_Social I know you tweeted about the server issue that resulted in the “username is already taken” glitch but I can see three people under the handle of “random”. Are multiple people meant to be able to use the same handle or is my phone having a meltdown.

Fortunately, the Hive Social team has a fix for the problem ready. In addition, the reliability of the profiles will increase thanks to the implementation of a verification system.

They also revealed that a 2FA system is on the way to improve account security. However, there is still no ETA for the implementation of both the verification system and 2FA.

Hive Social users are also facing some annoying problems with the login system. From time to time, they cannot access their accounts due to server problems.

Sorry but the app is still not allowing me to log in. Keep getting the “Something went wrong on our end” error.

Also, there are users who cannot register on the platform because they are not receiving the necessary verification email to complete the process.

Tried signing up for Hive and never got the verification e-mail. 🙁

Hive Social dev team is aware of the login issues that many users are facing. They’ve also explained the cause of the ‘verification email’ glitch and shared a workaround for those who can’t wait for an official fix.

It’s an issue with our exceeded quota (working on fixing it!) but sign up with Google or Apple works fine!🫶🐝

12:10 pm (IST): Multiple reports indicate that there is an issue during the Hive Social registration process where no password is accepted as valid (even though it meets all the requirements).
