Hey Google, why can't I report an entire Drive folder for abuse?

Infringement or violation of one’s privacy is a popular side-effect of this modern, ‘let me use the Internet for my benefit‘ era. It’s widely known that when it comes to storing and sharing unethical/illegal/prohibited content, users turn to cloud storage services. And the massively popular Google Drive stands no exception here.

Just like many others, Drive too has no run-time filters for what kind of content is uploaded by users. As a result, a lot of offensive/abusive content gets uploaded, which Google doesn’t act upon unless manually reported to them.

What’s more, this entire procedure of reporting an abuse has a major limitation.

You can’t report files/folders in bulk, says Google

Yes. Reporting an abuse to Google in itself is a tedious process, where one has to individually select and report each file. Now imagine a large Google Drive folder containing a lot of sub-folders and files – all containing offensive content. What are you going to do? Well, select and report each file, as sadly that’s the only option you currently have.

Google recently confirmed to a complainant facing similar issue, saying the Drive system currently doesn’t offer the ability to report an entire folder for abuse.

Unfortunately, it’s not technically possible to report an entire folder for abuse at this time.

Sad, but that’s how it stands. However, the Googler did say the limitation should hopefully be fixed in future.

My engineering team is aware of the issue and I’m hoping to have a fix for this in the future.

As far as one can see on Google Drive help forum, this limitation is long known. What has Google been waiting for? Going by what they have recently said, we hope we they do the needful to fix this annoying hurdle as soon as possible.
