Software updates in pipeline to address different Pixel 2 issues, phone warranty extended from 1 to 2 years [updated]

Google’s aware that their flagship Pixel 2 phones are rife with issues, so to “give users peace of mind,” the company is offering an extension in warranty. Yes, they say every Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL will now come with a 2-year warranty worldwide.

It’s worth mentioning that Preferred Care has been excluded from the warranty jump, and will continue to be offered for one year only. So the second year warranty covers only mechanical breakdowns, not accidental damages. Here’s Google employee Orrin‘s complete statement on this.

The company took to Pixel User Community to break the warranty extension news. Apart from offering an extension, team Pixel also addressed some of the currently talked about glitches baffling Pixel 2 users.

To begin with, what’s being more popularly addressed as screen burn-in, is officially being termed as differential aging by Google. The company says the decay characteristics of display are as good as the OLED panels used in other comparable products. They further added that differential aging should not be troublesome for everyday use, as it is similar to other smartphones.

However, respecting user concerns, they added that the software used in Pixel 2 XL (for OLED display) will be enhanced with updates for improving user experience.

The second issue that has been addressed is color saturation, where users complained of display not appearing as vibrant as other phones. The company pointed out that both Pixel 2 phones already include an option to boost colors by 10% for a more vivid look, for those who prefer more saturated colors.

But Google also said a new mode to offer more saturated colors will arrive in an upcoming update, which will roll out in new few weeks.

Another matter in discussion has been the blue tint in display, which Google has called a non-issue. They say the tint is an inherent part of display hardware, visible only when the phone’s held at a specific angle. Here’s what Google employee Seang Chau said while commenting on this issue:
