The Google Pixel 8 series, which is expected to hit the market in the second half of 2023, is likely to include the new Tensor G3 chipset.

Samsung is rumored to be working on the next Tensor chip, which will be based on Samsung’s Exynos architecture, which has been usually discussed in relation to the Pixel’s battery life and network issues.

Exynos and Snapdragon chipsets have long been used in Samsung flagships. The latter has proven to be the superior choice now that Samsung has abandoned its Exynos line in favor of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Chipset for the Galaxy S23 series.

In comparison, some models of the Galaxy S22 series have an Exynos chipset while others have a Snapdragon chipset. This is no longer the case with the S23 series.

This has concerned potential Pixel 8 buyers, who are now apprehensive about the potential efficiency impairment that a Samsung-made Tensor chipset may have (1,2,3).

This might also indicate problems with battery life and network connectivity, as the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 (both using Tensor chipsets) have experienced for a long time.

Aside from these issues, Exynos chips are notorious for overheating or underperformance when compared to Qualcomm Snapdragon equivalents.

Most high-end chipsets, however, are powerful enough to provide users with a flawless experience and hold their ground, as demonstrated by the G2 chipset in the past.

The difference in raw power is only apparent while playing demanding games such as Genshin Impact or when doing any other CPU/GPU-intensive activity such as rendering a video.

The snapdragon is just a strong metal. Maybe the Tensor doesn’t have the same performance, but with Google’s vertical integration, the phones still can be snappy and fast as hell. Ofc, gaming, or other performance-demanding tasks are another topic

According to a trustworthy source, Samsung will take the lead in the 3 nm chipset competition versus TSMC next year since they have created a ‘true’ 3nm chip.

As a result, in 2024, the chipsets made by Samsung Foundry will be smaller and denser than those produced by TSMC.

So, hopefully, the new Tensor chipset in 2024 will be considerably more efficient than the company’s present 4nm chipset, which degrades the chipset’s energy efficiency.

We’ll have to wait and see whether Tensor G3 is the chipset that will smash benchmark platform records and silence the Google Pixel 8 buyers’ efficiency concerns.

However, if the reports are true, the next-generation Tensor chipset in the Google Pixel 8 may be similar, if not superior, to the current Snapdragon equivalent.
