A new Google Photos version (3.3.0.165249556) is set to be rolled out soon, and it is expected to bring along some teeny-weeny improvements along with a major change. The teardown of the Photos apk reveals a useful feature for Airtel customers in India – the app will only back up stuff during Airtel Happy hours.
So that effectively means the app won’t consume data for which Airtel users pay (as data consumed during Happy Hours isn’t charged). This should indeed be a welcome news for Airtel subscribers who use Google Photos.
As for minor changes, the latest version clubs the options that were there in the Notifications section of the Settings menu (see first screenshot below), and adds them as part of a new Notifications option (last screenshot).
There has also been a slight re-arrangement of options in the Settings menu, but nothing else has been added or taken off.
Those accustomed to the app must know that one can select multiple pictures by long pressing on the first target image followed by choosing the rest, or by dragging, or by using the Select option in menu. The updated Photos version now offers a separate ‘Select’ option in Shared libraries as well (which wasn’t there earlier).
However, currently, this integration seems incomplete, as Select only allows you to zoom in at the moment. It could well be a mistake at Google’s end that got overlooked, although we’re not sure.
The teardown – done by AndroidPolice – also reveals a movie concept dubbed “they grow up so fast.” But that isn’t new, as the feature has been around since 2016.
