[Updated] Google Nest/Home sleep timer not working for some, issue acknowledged

People like me love to listen to music or a podcast before going to sleep. That’s when the sleep timer feature in Google Nest/Home comes in real handy.

This feature is similar to Amazon Echo which helps shut the media playback at a specific time that a user intends. However, there seem to be some problems with it currently.

Google Nest/Home sleep timer not working

Some Google Nest users (1,2,3,4,5) are experiencing an issue where the sleep timer is not working properly for almost two weeks now.

Even though Google Home acknowledges the command to switch off the timer but it doesn’t really accomplish the task. It keeps playing the audio even after the set time period.

For some, the timer keeps playing in a loop until the next day or even throughout the night. And it also doesn’t stop when users specify an actual time.

Do note that we witnessed a similar issue with Google Home or Nest sleep sounds a little while ago as well.

Official acknowledgement

Fortunately, Google has acknowledged the issue and said that the team is working on a fix. However, they haven’t shared an ETA for it.

There is no workaround at the moment that can help fix the issue temporarily. But affected users can try resetting their Nest Mini settings to default as suggested by the team.

We’ll keep tabs on the latest developments and update this article as and when something noteworthy comes up.

03:39 pm (IST): A community specialist has confirmed that this issue has now been resolved.
