Hey there, sorry for the delay and thanks for the information. We're already aware of this and our team is working on it — we'll let you know once we have a fix!

With the closure of June, we brought to limelight an issue with Google Home ‘Continued conversation’ feature. While the company is still debugging that problem, we have caught hold of another Google Home/Home Mini specific glitch.
Factory resetting Home device creates duplicate entries
Basically, users who have reset their Google Home/Home Mini devices – reportedly during or after the recent Google Home and Chromecast outage – are now seeing identical entries under Home control (in Google Home app) for the devices paired with their Home unit.
Complainants mention that following the FDR (Factory Data Reset), they gave the same name to the paired devices, which created duplicate entries that can neither be deleted nor unlinked.
Also resetting the Home device every time worsens the case, creating more twin entries (as can be seen in the following user-shared screenshots).
Users have been routing to Google Home help forum (1,2,3,4,5,6,7), Reddit (1,2) as well as micro blogging site Twitter (1,2) to bring the matter to the company’s notice.
A quick go through the following selection of user complaints will give you more clarity about the problem being discussed:
During today’s outage, before I knew it even was an outage, I factory reset my mini and set it up again. When setting it up through the Home app, I gave it the same name as before. Now, i have two of the same mini listed in home control, but only one listed in the devices section of Settings of the Home app. I have tried removing the one mini entry that shows up in devices, but the orphaned entry remains even after re-adding the device and giving it a different name.
Is there a way to delete a device from home control? I had problems with my Google Home Mini and I had to FDR and reinstall Google Home app on my iOS device and now there is a device that I cannot unlink or delete.
I have the same issue. I had one of my minis stop responding yesterday so I did a factory reset. It would not let me name it the same when it came back up so I just added a 2 on the end. The speaker still didn’t work. When I got home from work I was able to reset it and get it working with the original name but now I have the second one with a 2 behind it I cannot delete. It only shows up under home control with no way to remove it.
Hi, same problem here… I have 2 google mini, and on my home app there are five! I’ts not possible unlink from account because are not more linking (reset after google issue of 27) BUT STILL HERE…
How can I delete the unwanted Living Room speaker 1,Living speaker 2 etc. Basically all these speakers ending with a number do not exist. These speakers are created during trial and error to resolve yesterday glitch.
I previously had set the Google home device but recently due to connective issues decided to carry out a factory reset and now cant set the same device name as before during set up, my assistant shows me two speaker in the devices tab on home control option.
The glitch is being reported by both Android and iOS users.
Google’s take on the matter
What’s good is that Google recently acknowledged the issue while reverting back to one of the complainants on Twitter. They also added that a fix is being worked on.
That’s not all.
Link issue with Sonoff switches
Another glitch that got a quick acknowledgement from Google’s official Twitter handle (@madebygoogle) is related to Google Home and sonoff switches, wherein users report (1,2) that establishing link between the two devices is acting up.
@GoogleHomeNews anybody having trouble linking their sonoff switches with google home? Mine were working pretty well till 2 months ago. Now the account is not getting linked. Keeps saying network error. Any help?

And here’s what Google said:
Thanks for letting us know. Our team is aware of this and working on a fix — we'll give you updates once available.

Though Google has quickly accepted both Google Home-related broken functionalities, they are yet to fix them. We hope they do the needful soon, as the problems – especially the first one – have already troubled a good chunk of users. And like always, we’ll let you know as and when that occurs.
