A lot of people use the Google Smart Home platform as it allows them to easily manage their devices via the Google Assistant and Home app.

However, an issue seems to be spoiling the user experience for multiple users as their Google Home devices are not allowing kids to play songs on YouTube Music.

As per numerous reports from the Google Support community, Google Assistant responds with the “I’m sorry, your account isn’t allowed to play YouTube videos” message when it recognizes a kid’s voice.

The issue is spread across multiple Google Home devices which respond in the same way when kids try to play songs on the YouTube Music app.

While a Google Support Product Expert has stated that the issue has been escalated to Google, it is unclear how the tech giant will proceed with the resolution.

Also, the reports clearly indicate that the said issue occurs with kids’ accounts managed by Google Family Link.

Nevertheless, users have found multiple workarounds including resetting their Google Home devices and tweaking the Digital Wellbeing settings.

While these workarounds are working for them, the actual cause of the problem might lie in Google’s children account policy.

As per the YouTube Kids guidelines, if a child’s, under 13, Google account is created via Family Link, they can only use the YouTube Kids.

This further means that children under 13 whose account has been setup via Family Link or is under supervision will not be able to use YouTube website, apps, or other features.

Moreover, children are not allowed to play songs on YouTube Music, make purchases, and use Google apps without the “For families” badge.

Hopefully, Google resolves the problem soon as any Smart Home setup is supposed to be making things easier.

That said, we will keep tracking this for further development and will provide more details once new information becomes available.
