Update: Some users have recently (July 18) reported that Google’s new Backup and Sync application has fixed the apps quitting or error 6248 issue. So those affected can give the new app a try.
Original story below:
Is Google Drive application crashing with an “error 6248” notification? Looks like you aren’t alone. For quite long, users have reported failure to sync Google Drive on Mac and Windows.
Users encountering this issue note that the application force closes with a message “Sorry Google Drive need to quit”. Suggested workarounds like removing particular files, restarting, uninstalling/reinstalling app, and rebooting resolved the issue for some, but not all.
This problem dates back to November, 2016 when it was reported for first time. On February 28, 2017 users got to hear from an expert of Google Products that:
“I’m working on this issue with my team and will get back to you as soon as I get an update”.
She repeated the aforementioned comment on April 12 and 19, 2017 and there was no update after that. It’s likely that Google is aware of the bug and working on it.
A quick look at the comments in the relevant thread on official Drive forums reveals that this problem continues to bother users till date. If you are encountering this error, you can keep track on the progress by visiting back here.
