Google Drive File Stream, the Windows and macOS app for enterprise users, was renamed to Google Drive for desktop back in January.

The rebranded app was first available as version 45.0.12.0 and has since been updated to version 47.0 as per the official release notes.

However, Google Workspace users have been reporting about an issue with version 46.0 where Google Drive for desktop shows a blank white UI and causes a lot of CPU usage.

As per user reports, the said issue specifically started after the desktop app got updated to version 46.0.3.0.

Also, some user reports suggest that the issue is known to Google and a fix is in the works for the same.

What is more interesting is that a Reddit user has reported that Google provided them with a pre-release version 46.0.4.0 which seems to have solved the problem.

While the official release notes do list version 47.0 as the latest, it is unclear whether it has been deployed for Google Workspace users or not.

Moreover, recent reports from the Google Support community indicate that the issue is still present which might indicate that version 47.0 is yet to be deployed.

Some users have reinstalled the desktop app version 45.0.12.0 but once it automatically updates to version 46.0.3.0, the issue comes back.

Since there has been no official word from Google on the matter so far, things are pretty much left for speculation.

Nevertheless, the tech giant might indeed be working on a fix and may soon deploy version 46.0.4.0 or 47.0 on a wider scale if user reports and official release notes are anything to go by.
