Accessing camera (to capture images/videos) is one of the basic features that smart messaging apps offer. However, currently, users of Google’s Allo messaging app are deprived of it. Some of those who brought the problem to notice say whenever they access camera from within Allo, all they get to see is a black screen.
Interestingly, as per reports, it’s possible to click a picture despite the black screen, with users saying they can even see the captured image. But of course, you can’t do anything meaningful with this partial access, as you don’t know what the camera is about to capture.
That’s the reason why users have no other option but to take picture separately (using some other app), and then share them through Allo.
And of course, the issue also affects the brand new ‘selfie clips‘ feature.
While that’s no doubt a big bummer for Allo users, what’s good is that the problem got quickly acknowledged by Google, with company employee employee Chris (who is also the Community Manager at the official Allo help forum) noting that the team is not only aware of the problem, but is actively trying to catch hold of the root cause as well.
Here’s what he exactly said:
Just heard that the team is aware of the issue and is working to see what the root cause is

Sadly, there’s no information on exactly when the issue will be fixed. Let’s hope it happens sooner than later.
