Google's Trusted Contacts app is now available on iOS

We all need to be sure about the safe keeping of our loved ones. Don’t we? For this reason, Google came up with Trusted contacts app last year. It’s basically a personal safety app to communicate your location to the ones who care. At launch, the app was only available on Android. However, not to let iOS users feel left out, the company is now rolling out the app for them as well.

So, what exactly the app does?

User can add relevant contacts to the trusted list. Once labeled as trusted, that person can access your activity status (check for any recent movement or whether you are online) anytime. The app allows you to share your location with trusted contacts whenever you feel unsafe – it uses your phone’s GPS system for this.

On the other hand, trusted contacts can also request to see your location. Of course, you can deny the request, but in case no action is taken within a certain time span, your location will be shared with the one who asked for it. Not to miss, you can invite a trusted contact to virtually stay with you, till the time you get into a safe zone.

And in case your phone goes offline, the app will show your last known location information. Location sharing also means that your trusted ones can track your real-time movement on maps, which can prove to be helpful in many situations.

With the app’s break out for iOS, updates have been added to Android as well. Users can now control the time frame before which the location gets shared automatically (was earlier set to five minutes by default). Trusted contacts can now be added by phone number as well as emails. In addition, the app is now available in nine different languages.

Trusted contacts is now available for iOS in App Store, while Android users can also update to version 1.5.
